Bro. Philip Housdan, Pastor

"Hey, everyone! I'm Philip, and I'm the founding pastor of Crossroads Fellowship. I've been in ministry since 2000. After several years of struggling with drugs and alcoholism, I surrendered myself to the Lord in 1997, and He changed my life forever and for the better. I'm passionate about leading others to Him and helping them grow in their walks with God, just as my pastor helped me open my heart to God all those years ago.

I have a loving wife, Rhonda, and four beautiful children. When I'm not at Crossroads, you can find me hunting, fishing or writing.

I hope you will join us and become a member of the Crossroads family!"

What we believe

1. God

We believe in one, and only one, living and true God. He is creator of all things. He is holy, perfect, and exists eternally in three equally divine persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes but without division of nature, essence or being. Having limitless knowledge and power, God has lovingly and graciously purposed from eternity to redeem people for Himself, and to make all things new for His glory.

2. The Bible & Scriptures

We believe that the Bible was written by men who were divinely inspired by God, in order to reveal Himself to all of mankind. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. Therefore, since all scripture is totally true and trustworthy, it is to be believed in all that it teaches, obeyed in all that it requires, and trusted in all that it promises.

3. Mankind

We believe that man is the special creation of God. God created Adam and Eve and placed them in the Garden of Eden. They were perfect just as the rest of God's creation was perfect, but God also gave them a free will. Adam and Eve were tempted by Satan. They sinned by choosing to eat the forbidden fruit, and they, in essence and in nature, fell from that perfection into a state of sinfulness. Since all people are descendants of Adam and Eve, we are also sinners by nature and by choice, alienated from God, and under his wrath. Although we will remain sinners until we die, God, by His grace, has made a way of salvation and reconciliation for any and all who by faith believe in Jesus sacrificial death for our sins upon the cross, in His resurrection from the dead, and repent from a sinful lifestyle. Only through faith in Jesus can anyone be saved.

4. Jesus

We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, God in the flesh - God incarnate, that He is fully God and fully man. He was born of the virgin Mary, conceived by the Holy Spirit, making Him sinless at birth. He also lived a sinless life in complete obedience to God the Father. This made Him the perfect, spotless, ultimate sacrifice for the sin of all mankind, dying once for all. He was buried and rose from the grave, conquering death, and ascended into Heaven where He now sits at the right hand of the Father with all power and authority. He is our Advocate and High Priest. His atoning death and victorious resurrection constitute the only grounds for salvation. We must repent of our sins and by faith believe in Him and His sacrifice and resurrection for salvation.

5. Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, fully divine, and glorifies Jesus in all that He does. He convicts man of sin, covers believers in righteousness, indwells in their hearts, enlightens, empowers, guides and equips us for Christ-like living and service.

6. Salvation

We believe God desires for all people to be saved, that is, rescued from judgement and destruction. As sinners, we deserve this but, God offers freely to all people this gift of salvation. Salvation occurs when an individual first has realized that they are a sinner and that they need a Savior; understands that Jesus’ death on the cross was the perfect sacrifice that God the Father required to pay for the sins of all mankind, including their own; understands that Jesus rose from the grave conquering death; and that, just as Jesus commanded, they must repent of a sinful lifestyle, and put all their faith and trust in Jesus as their Savior and as Lord of their life.

7. The Church

We believe the church is the body of Jesus Christ. The true church includes all believers everywhere; those who have been justified by God’s grace through faith alone in Jesus alone. All believers are united by the Holy Spirit as the body of Jesus Christ, of which He is the Head. This true church is manifest in local church bodies, whose membership should be composed only of believers. The Lord Jesus mandated two ordinances: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

  • Baptism is a picture of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. It is the immersion of a believer in water. All believers are commanded to be baptized for an outward sign of an internal spiritual reality - death and burial of the old person, and resurrection to new life with Jesus as Savior and Lord.

  • The Lord’s Supper is also a picture, one of Jesus’ death, His broken body, and His shed blood. We break bread and drink from the fruit of the vine, just as He did with the Apostles, in remembrance of what He went through because of our sins.

8. Christian Living

We believe that God commands all of us to love Him supremely and to demonstrate our love for Him by being obedient to His will as found in the scriptures and as the Holy Spirit leads us. As we love Him supremely, we also love others sacrificially. We are to live out our faith by loving and caring for one another, having compassion on the poor, and seeking justice for the oppressed. With God’s Word, The Holy Spirit’s power, and passionate prayer in Jesus’ name, we are to combat the spiritual forces of evil. In obedience to Christ’s commission, we are to make disciples among all peoples everywhere, sharing the Good News of God’s love and salvation for all who will believe and have faith in Jesus.

9. Jesus Christ's Return

We believe that God, in His own time and in His own way, will bring the world to its appropriate end. We believe in the personal, bodily, and pre-millenial return of our Lord Jesus Christ. His return, which will occur at a time known only by God the Father, demands a constant expectancy of us as believers. His return, being the blessed hope that we have in Him, also motivates us to godly living, sacrificial service, and energetic mission.

9. Response & Eternal Destiny

We believe that God commands everyone everywhere to believe in Him, In His Son’s sacrificial death for their sins, and in His resurrection from the dead. By faith in Him, repenting of a sinful life, He saves all who call upon His name for salvation. Eternity is a physical existence for all people who have ever lived. We believe that God will raise the dead bodily and judge the world; assigning all unbelievers to condemnation and an eternal conscious punishment in Hell which was created by Him for Satan and the angels who fell with him, and assigning all believers to eternal blessedness and joy in His presence in the new Heaven and new earth, to the praise of His glorious grace and love.
